Why are we torturing ourselves?

Klimbing Mt. Kinabalu is no easy feat. Seriously. I am not going to sugar-coat things.  It's hard, painful, laborious, tiring. Not forgetting, expensive. And, the post-klimb muscle soreness - HELL!! Then why... WHY in the world do people put themselves into such difficult situation & torture their mind & body to such pain??!!

For me, I've a few reasons why I decided to subject myself to the killer klimb second time around. Here goes:

1. Do or Die Mission
I've a secret. Not many know this. When I klimbed Mt. Kinabalu in 2009, I didn't reach Low's Peak. Stopped few metres away & gave up at St' John's Peak. This is the main reason why I'm returning to Mt. Kinabalu. For me, it's do or die. If I don't reach Low's Peak this time, I don't think I will klimb Kinabalu again.

2. The Friend Experience
The experience of doing it with friends will be different. With my hubby, I can act all 'lembik' & even cry (which I did in 2009 - on my way down). With friends... err, I dunno who's gonna pujuk me if I cry (who wants to volunteer to be my shoulder to cry on?). So, yeap. I'm excited about this '11 girls & 2 guys' trip.

3. Mind over matter
Klimbing Kinabalu is 50% physical. The other 50% is mental. Imagine climbing 6hrs on the first day. And 14hrs on the second day. The steps seem to go forever & ever. Add a little bit of rain, and you have the perfect recipe for a mind-crushing, demotivating, hell of a klimb. The klimb really tests your mental strength.

4. Photo-phabulous
Back in 2009, I was so out of energy at the peak that I couldn't be bothered to smile for the camera. Even if I smiled, it was so tired-looking. I looked horrible. This time around, I want to take happy-looking, smiley photos at the peak. If possible, I want to take a photo of the group jumping at the peak. Motto di sini: "Biar penat tapi tetap ceria" ah ah ah.

So, those are my main reasons. What about you? Share your reasons in the comment box ya!
